Chester’s Town Crier

LISTEN UP! Other places have town criers, but Chester makes more of the role than anywhere else. Chester is the only place in Britain to retain the tradition of midday proclamations from a fixed point: at 12 noon from the High Cross, five days a week, throughout the summer. But our town crier, David Mitchell, offers a much wider range of resources than just an entertaining welcome to visitors.

If you need a Chester-flavoured launch to a conference, for example, David will welcome your delegates with his ‘2,000 years of Chester history in 20 seconds’. Plus those whose first language is not English will appreciate a welcome in their own language. Or if you need an after-dinner speaker, he can be relied upon to have guests laughing from start to finish.

New business openings or product launches are another situation in which the loud and colourful presence of our Regency-style crier will attract attention in a crowd-pleasing and media-friendly manner.
